Lens Adapter MicroscopeToday the world has become very visually active. From commerce, to entertainment to education everything has come to depend on visual aids. Naturally, optical devices like cameras, microscopes, binoculars, telescopes all have become imperative. With so many devices and so many different lenses available in the market it is hard to have just one kind of lens yet it is too expensive to have multiple devices of the same kind for using multiple lenses. The answer to this problem is a lens adapter and we are here to give you the entire rundown on how this apparatus works and can be useful for you.

Digiscoping, a way of capturing images by coupling cameras with other magnifying devices, has become a very prominent practice in the field of photography and hence the need for a proper platform which can provide the necessary information about it has risen. Since one of the most important equipment involved in digiscoping is the lens adapter that is used to combine the two optical devices, we are here to provide you with as much details as you would need on such lens adapters.

No matter what your area of interest is- web authoring, surveillance, astrophotography, microscopy, digiscoping or simply entertaining you friends and family, the possibilities of producing fascinating pictures when you use normal cameras with other magnification devices using the lens adapter is endless. The lens adapter has been a very well received and useful accessory within the students, researchers, professionals and casual digiscoping enthusiasts alike. The importance of digital photography is on an all-time high both in the personal, educational and business sphere. The lens adapter not only enhances the possibilities but also gives way to newer techniques and newer styles.

Now you can easily connect your basic camera, your SLR or your camcorder to the eyepiece of most magnification optics like Spotting Scopes, Microscopes, Binoculars and Telescopes using the versatile lens adapters and give your pictures the edge they need.

General instructions to attach a Lens Adapter

The lens adapter couples the eyepieces of different optical devices depending on the compatibility and setting of the cameras. The quality of the pictures you take will depend on the devices you attach; the lens adapter will simply help you combine the two devices to get the perfect picture you want.

Filter threads on cameras vary widely. The standard size is 28mm/52mm or 37mm/52mm but some cameras aren’t equipped with these threads in which case one can buy step-up or step-down rings.  In some cameras, the lens is attached slightly inside the body. In this case, you can opt for a haze filter and then attach the usual lens adapter.

Types of Lens Adapter:

  • The Standard lens adapter comes usually with 49mm threads and it helps couple any optical device whose outside diameters range from 12mm (1/2”) to 41mm (1 5/8”).
  • The 2Plus is equipped with 37mm filter threads and it helps couple larger eyepieces like the ones found on Kowa or Swarovski spotting scopes or most telescopes. Such optical devices will have outside diameter ranging from 35mm (1 3/8”) to 60mm (2 5/16”).
  • The universal optical adapter which couples any device which has an outside diameter ranging from 1/2 inch to 1 5/8 inch. It is more often than not used as an adapter for night vision purposes.
